Psychotherapists

 

Therapists are a diverse group of professionals which specialize in differing forms of therapy such as psychotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy, psychoanalysis, dialectic behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, couples, family or group therapy.

 

Mental health practionioners who practice therapy include social workers, psychologists (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), and psychiatrists (M.D.). In addition to these licensed professionals, counseling and supportive therapy is often provided by school counselors, peer support groups, pastors, or priests.

 

Social workers that practice therapy may have degrees such as a Bachelor in Social Work (B.S.W.) who can become Certified Social Workers (C.S.W.) or hold a Masters in Social Work (M.S.W.) which may become a Licensed Social Worker (L.S.W.) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.).

 

The largest national organization of social workers is the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

 

Other individuals who practice therapy include family therapists, couple therapists, art therapists, and speech and occupational therapists.
