He attended Georgetown University Medical School and completed his psychiatry residency at New York University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Magera is board certified in Psychiatry and is affiliated with NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital where he has supervised and taught medical students and residents. He routinely collaborates with physicians in other fields of medicine, as well as other mental health clinicians, to individualize treatment and deliver the highest quality of care to his patients.
Dr. Magera’s interdisciplinary background in the social and biological sciences complements his holistic approach to patient care. He has extensive experience in individual psychotherapy (including dynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal therapy modalities), relationship and marital therapy, the treatment of issues related to loss and bereavement, and therapy for individuals contemplating career changes or seeking a greater degree of professional satisfaction in their work lives. Dr. Magera prescribes medication when symptoms are of sufficient duration and severity to significantly affect a person’s overall functioning, however only after comprehensive assessment and exploration of all relevant treatment options. Areas of special interest include the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and adult attention deficit disorder. |
